What Customers Say About Sony MDR-EX90LP Stereo Earphones:

The rubber ear tips and the offset chord. Sound quality with these earphones is very good. When I lost the one ear piece and thought I was going to have to buy a new set of earphones, I had no intention of looking for anything other than these again. If there are any aspects of them that I would consider an actual negative, it would fall into 2 categories. Mids and highs are excellently reproduced, and bass is quite strong, but slightly weaker than the other two. After several near loses, I finally lost one of the tips that fit the phones directly into your ear. And seeing that there are already newer models of these earphones, you may want to order replacement tips when you order the earphones themselves, just so you know you will have them when you need them.

But I had the tip fall off a few times before I actually lost it, so I would say you will want to be ready for this event to occur. The other thing that bugs me sometimes is the way the chord is run, with the short left ear chord and the long right side chord. These match well with portable mp3 players, as they seem to almost make compressed music formats sound a little more even. I've owned these for approximately 3 years (they were $90 when I bought them) at the time of this writing and mine are still going strong. While not comparable to professional studio, large driver headphones, these are great sounding. I've used mine with my iPod and MacBook Pro since I got them and they have performed dutifully on a nearly daily basis.

After a little searching, I was able to fine replacement ones that seem to be working just as well. I guess in some ways it is helpful but I think it causes just as many issues as it solves.Overall, if you looking for a "buy" or "don't buy" rating, put me squarely in the "buy" column. The Sony MDR-EX90LPs are a simply great earphones. But the full range is quite nicely balanced, with no part of the spectrum overpowering another. Again, this was after several years of use and I am quite careful with mine.

I haven't used these directly but have gotten reviews 2nd hand from the person I bought them for.

They won't fall out, which is another plus with me. The only slight issue would be that the inside of my ears are a tiny bit sore from them. What a pain. I am really enjoying them. You won't regret it. That's tolerable, though considering the sound quality, and the fact that these earphones STAY in your ears.

Anyhow, GET these. I just received these headphones today, and the sound is spectacular. They cut out the outside noise a little as well. I've had earphones in the past that sounded great, but kept coming loose.

I personally love this arrangement because it means that I can drape the earbuds around my neck and onto my shoulders. However, I also know that some people hate this arrangement, and so the earbuds may sound beautiful but are inconvenient for them. I was very sad and disappointed that these headphones broke. I tried to identify the problem and recable them myself but to no avail. I have tested many different kinds of earbuds including the Sennheiser CX400s, and I like this one better by far. I used these earbuds for about 4 months and loved the sound quality that I got from my recordings. The problem is that after the 4 months I started to lose signal in the left earbud unless I held the cables in a certain position, and afterwards the sound cut out altogether. I am not sure why this happened, but I do wear my earbuds essentially 24/7, and the constant wear may have contributed to the eventual breakage. One note: the cable arrangement for the MDR-90LPs is asymmetrical, meaning the one side has less cable than the other.

after about 4 months of ownership the plastic cover on the left ear piece came off and wont stay on and now whenever the bass hits hard the left bud rattles. After listening to a pair of in-ears that cost more than twice the price of these i am convinced that these give you the most bang for your buck.I would have given these 5 stars but I had some problems with mine. Although i did have some problems with mine i would happily re-purchase these in the future with an extended warranty of some sort. Purchased these to replace the apple earbuds in spring. The sound quality is outstanding, the bass is very rich and the highs are very balanced. The sony rep informed me that the warranty is only for 90 days so the best she could offer me was a refurbished pair ($15 less than a new pair).
